the humble apple cake

In 2019, on a fairly nondescript day, I published a recipe for an Apple Cake.

I’d been working on the recipe for a while. Some of my attempts were dense and dry, others were bland. But I finally stumbled on the perfect recipe in my eyes.

It was made with oil and yogurt which made it moist for days. It had a delicious cinnamon sugar crumb on top and a drippy sugar glaze.

I pressed publish.

Five years later, this humble Apple Cinnamon Cake is my most popular recipe EVERY year.

Over half a million of you have looked at the recipe this year alone. And more than 1,000 of you have given it five-stars.

It's success has inspired me to make more one layer cakes that don’t have frosting.

After all, if there’s anything we can agree on, it’s that easy cakes are always a winner.
