Custard Magic + The Only Christmas Cookie Recipes You Need

hi there Reader

homemade custard

I think I only realised 'homemade custard' didn't mean making custard using custard powder until I was well into my twenties.

But once I learnt how to make custard from scratch (like actually from scratch) my life was forever changed.

Homemade Custard is surprisingly easy, using only a handful of pantry staple ingredients. But boy oh boy, does it taste good.

It's all about that creamy, velvety texture. And it makes the store-bought stuff taste bland and fake. Even the expensive ones!

So I'm excited to share my fool-proof Homemade Custard recipe with you today. It's perfect for pouring over puddings, cakes, pies or trifles. Or just eating straight with fresh fruit.

You can guarantee we'll be enjoying some alongside my favourite Christmas Fruit Cake this year.

christmas cookies

If there is anything I think I'm good at in life, it's eating making cookies.

So I've put together a list of my favourite Christmas cookies for you.

It includes my buttery Jam Drops, my crunchy Biscotti and my Sugar Cookie recipe that require NO chilling but hold their shape perfectly (I know, it's a miracle).

If you want something a little different for your cookie swaps or exchanges this year, you can try my Chocolate Stuffed Shortbread or my Gingerbread NYC Cookies.

Or try your hand at mesmerising Checkerboard Cookies.

And of course if crinkle cookies are your thing, I've got Chocolate ones, Lemon ones and even Red Velvet ones.

Happy baking,

Jess xx

For the last 11 years, I’ve been developing my own recipes and publishing them on Sweetest Menu. And YOU have been making them. But there is one thing you have asked me for. Again. And again. And again. And it’s finally happening. I’m writing a cookbook. One more time for those in the back. I'M...

hi there Reader lemon coconut cake Happy April and happy Easter! I hope you're hopping into the Easter break and not diving over the finish line like me 😅 It's been a big few weeks here at SM (more on that soon 😉) but I'm loving all the Easter baking, whether it's fluffy Hot Cross Buns or a simple NYC Cookie filled with chocolate Easter eggs. But if there's one thing that should grace your Easter table this year, I hope it's my NEW Lemon Coconut Cake. She's just lovely with two layers of soft...

hi there Reader chocolate nyc cookies Hello hello! I blinked and suddenly it was March. Are you feeling the same? The leaves are turning orange, my baby boy is turning two and I'm wondering where February went. If you've been around these parts for a while, you'll know my copycat Levain Bakery Chocolate Chip...
